Battleface Travel Insurance Review 2024

Battleface’s Scout policy stands out for its low average cost. If you value a low price over lots of add-on options and high coverage limits, the Scout plan is worth considering. It is sold only at CompareCoverage.com.

Travelers who want more robust coverage and/or who plan to participate in adventure sports should take a look at Battleface’s Discovery policy, which is sold at the company’s website. This policy is fully customizable, allowing you to subtract coverage types that you don’t want.

Battleface Travel Insurance Plans

Scout Policy

The Scout policy provides core benefits found in many standard travel insurance plans, and is for trips up to 90 days. You can add:

  • Accidental death and dismemberment coverage of $25,000, $50,000 or $100,000.
  • CFAR upgrade.
  • Rental car coverage of $35,000.

Single Trip Discovery Policy

The single-trip plan from Battleface provides coverage for one specific trip up to 90 days in length. When you purchase a policy, you select your exact travel dates and destinations.

The single-trip plan includes important coverage like emergency medical treatment, emergency medical evacuation, trip cancellation and trip interruption. You can also add optional coverage like rental car damage, vacation rental damage, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D), pet travel and “cancel for any reason.”

The Discovery plan also helps pay for medical costs if you’re injured doing any of the following activities:

  • Backpacking.
  • Canoeing.
  • Camping.
  • Cycling.
  • Downhill and cross-country skiing.
  • Fishing.
  • Hiking.
  • Ice Skating.
  • Kayaking.
  • Mountain climbing up to fifteen thousand (15,000) feet.
  • Sailing.
  • Scuba diving for qualified divers up to a maximum depth of forty (40) meters (one hundred thirty-one (131) feet) and for unqualified divers up to a maximum depth of thirty (30) meters (ninety-eight (98) feet).
  • Snorkeling.
  • Snowboarding (including off-trail and backcountry skiing and snowboarding, except as designated unsafe by the resort management).
  • Snowmobiling.
  • Snow tubing.
  • Tobogganing.
  • Water skiing.
  • White or black water rafting (Grades one (1) to four (4).

Note that adventure activities are excluded from medical evacuation benefits.

The single-trip plan covers longer trips up to 90 days in length, compared to the 40-day per trip limit on the multi-trip version.

Battleface Multi-Trip Travel Insurance

The single-trip plans require purchasing a new policy for each trip, which may be less convenient if you travel frequently throughout the year. For multiple trips, the multi-trip plan provides more flexibility and value.

Multi-Trip Annual Policy

When you purchase a multi-trip policy from Battleface, you’re covered for unlimited trips for 365 days. Each trip can be up to 40 days long.

The multi-trip plan includes the same core benefits as the single-trip plan, such as emergency medical coverage, emergency medical evacuation, trip cancellation and trip interruption.

You can select your maximum coverage limit for the year: $1,500, $3,000 or $5,000. If you’re taking a trip that costs more than these limits, Battleface suggests purchasing a single-trip plan.

A key advantage of the multi-trip option is convenience—you can take as many trips as you want knowing you already have coverage in place, without having to purchase a new policy for each trip. The multi-trip plan may also be more economical compared to buying single-trip policies for each individual vacation you take throughout the year.

Space Travel Insurance

Battleface also has a Space Travel Insurance plan for space flights. While statistics are limited for commercial space flight risks, Battleface partners with underwriters at Lloyd’s of London to build a customized protection plan. These plans help cover any catastrophic events that result in death or disability.

Battleface Travel Insurance Optional Add-ons

The main optional add-ons for Battleface’s Discovery Single-Trip travel insurance policies are:

  • Pet travel package: Covers up to $2,000 in veterinary care if your pet gets sick or injured while traveling. Also covers pet transportation home up to $500 if you can’t travel due to illness or injury.
  • Rental vehicle damage: Up to $35,000 in coverage for theft of or damage to a rented vehicle.
  • Accidental death & dismemberment: Choose a coverage amount up to $500,000 for accidents resulting in loss of life, limbs, eyesight or hearing.
  • Vacation rental damage: Reimburses you for damage to personal property in a vacation rental. All traveling companions are covered if they are listed on the rental agreement.
  • “Cancel for any reason” upgrade: Get up to 75% refund on prepaid trip costs if you cancel for any reason not covered in the base policy. You must buy this add-on within 15 days of making your initial trip deposit. “Cancel for any reason” travel insurance upgrades typically add 50% to your travel insurance cost. You have to cancel your trip no less than 48 hours before your departure in order to make an insurance claim using this coverage.
